The Garden Apartment Project

Yesterday was the showhouse event for St. Louis AT HOME Magazine's 2011 Community Project at the Garden Apartments for the Repertory Theatre of St. Louis and boy am I pooped! The Garden Apartments in Webster Groves houses visiting performers for both the Rep and the Opera Theatre of St. Louis.  After several months of planning, the real work began a few short weeks ago for myself and thirteen other designers each tasked with the makeover of a one bedroom, one bathroom apartment. Though there were many bumps in the road along the way, I so enjoyed the trip! Check out the fruits of my labor!

I went for a mid-century industrial feel and I wanted to have fun with color and texture!

After finding this beautiful stereo cabinet in perfect working condition, music from the same era became my inspiration!

The "sparkle wall" was the perfect backdrop.....

......to the smooth sounds of big band on wax!

The musical mural leaves just enough space for the visiting performers to leave their mark, if they'd like!

As most of the performers are men, I wanted to create a moodier, more masculine place to wind down.

I do hope that he has a sense of humor!

The actors will be moving in next week.  I hope that they enjoy their stay as much as I enjoyed this challenge!
